ANIMALS' RIGHTS

It is important to me and to thousands of others that the right of our animals are protected in our new country's constitution.

I implore you to ensure that farm animals, laboratory animals, pets and even those unfortunate animals classified as ‘vermin' are protected by humane legislation, from abuse, neglect, indifference, greed and cruelty.

I feel most strongly, that all South Africans have basic rights - food, water, clean air and a feeling of well-being - and it is this basic right of a feeling of well-being, that is currently being infringed.

I am not alone in believing that my mental health is at risk because of the pity I feel for the plight of so many of today’s animals.

I would like to see this issue dealt with only by the highest level of government as the animals have no voice of their own with which to express their fear and pain.

I implore you to give this plea due consideration - it is long overdue.
