VIEWS ON EARLY RETIREMENT: SOUTH
AFRICAN POLICE SERVICE AND DEFENCE FORCE
I would like to air my views on
the subject of early retirement In the abovementioned Forces. In most first
world countries, a member Is considered to be a veteran after 15 years service
In any Force. After twenty years service, most members have established
themselves in a certain direction of a Force and do not want to be transferred,
and if so, would rather take his discharge and take up
another
job.
After thirty years, a member as above, is so imbedded In his
environment and have such a lot of private activities going, that he
does not
give his full support and loyalty to his employer.
My submission Is that
any member should be allowed to go on early retirement at the age of 45 years
and with 25 years of service,
after which the Forces had the best years out of
such a member, providing the formulas of monthly pension and gratuity Is worked
out as Is the
case of the current pension scheme.
All pension
years bought back as In the early years, must be considered as actual service
years with early pensioning, and the status
quo of one year free service for
every 4 years up to a maximum of 20 years must also be held Intact.
