Citizen Contribution: M Bradford [1995] ZAConAsmRes 925 (22 February 1995)

As a citizen of the New South Africa, I object in the strongest possible terms to the Legislation of Pornographic magazines. Not only is this literature an infringement of Women’s Rights, but it debases them into sex objects. I respect other people's freedom of expression, as long as it does not violate my family’s freedom. I have a right to bring up my children in a morally upright environment and to protect family values which are undermined by this literature. The tendency towards immorality has contributed to the disintegration of previous nations in history. The time has come for the silent majority to be heard.

We urge you to re-introduce standards of moral decency which will contribute to the fibre of our families in our great new nation. Or do you want more rape, crime, child abuse, drug abuse, etc. Be careful, our children live in this world too.

Is it not obvious, especially if you have children, that this display of degradation and violence attacks not only mothers but fathers too and is a tremendously bad example to all the millions of children and uneducated people in the world (in short: the whole human race) - no wonder people have no regard for human life any more! How can child abuse be stopped if the very cause of it is alive and flourishing.

I am by no means a saint and I have learned by some mighty mistakes, but I do care about the safety of the children. Their brains are being fed with the negativity of an ugly world, so no wonder they commit suicide. They should be learning instead to have a positive outlook on how much beauty and true love this life can have considering how devastating life can be without perverting it any further.

The problem is that it all boils down to the "love of money" and if these uncaring people can make money, who cares about the children! People should be less concerned about the pollution of nature in the world and first take care of the pollution of the children (the spirit of the world) in the world and then the pollution of nature would automatically be taken care of.

I hope you hear this cry from the very soul of the nation you are trying to uphold (hopefully) and that it will touch the understanding and wisdom of your good souls.
