31 January 1995

I am concerned after listening to the radio programme "talking of nature" repeat 31/111995 that there is not a specific portfolio in the new constitution on environmental affairs.

With the worlds present production of toxic waste this portfolio is becoming more and more necessary - and the problems needed to be addressed more and more urgent.

In America a man - William Brinton has been working for 20 years with compost making developing bacteria which consume toxic waste. "Woods end research laboratory, Mount Vernon, Maine USA

A recycling programme involving every household (end page 1) in South Africa, should be set up. This recycling of biological as well as organic waste could be the start of a new environmental awareness and consciousness to each and every South African.

Yours faithfully
