30 January 1995
While I rejoice about the changes which occurred in 1994 and endorse a
number i of aspects of the constitution, I cannot accept everything that
seems to be coming in the name of 'freedom, choice and democracy".
I am opposed
to the following 'doctrines' that are slipping in, in the name of
democracy:
The call for abortion on demand which brings to
question both the sovereignty of god and the value of human life - I believe
that life begins at conception and am
thus totally opposed to the legalising of
abortion on demand and the "right to choice" being included in the
constitution.
The call for the abandonment of censorship I
ask that the production, sale, distribution, or exhibition of materials defined
as "obscene" be made a criminal offence and the
legislation of pornographic
materials be excluded from the "right of freedom of speech." I urge state
legislature to adopt an objective
definition of obscenity that would make the
distribution of hard-core pornography illegal. The writer believes that both
legislative
reform coupled with greater resources for law enforcement are needed
to address the problem of pornography which is creeping in at
the back door of a
democratic society.
The call for liberal promotion of
homosexual relations As a Christian, I am concerned about the protection of
"gay rights" in the constitution and am opposed to homosexual
marriages.
I believe that human civilisation and human dignity rests upon
rules and that one cannot have rights without responsibilities. It
is our
responsibility both to protect the youth - tomorrow's society - against
exploitation and to uphold the moral fibre of our
nation, South
Africa.
