OWNERSHIP OF FIREARMS
I wish to record my
feelings on the above subject.
The simple ownership of a firearm does not
of necessity lead to violence and loss of life. People possess them for a
variety of reasons.
I occasionally find it necessary to shoot the bushpigs who
destroy my crops and garden and pose a threat to my animals. This does
not make
me a killer.
However, what worries me with the direction in which the
government seems to be moving is that honest citizens who have bought their
firearms legally and have them licensed will be the people who will be targetted
for confiscation because they are traceable. This
will remove the right to self
protection from responsible citizens and tilt the scales to the side of the
criminal, violent element
who at present have the upper hand in
society.
I surely have the right to protect myself against the hijacker
who threatens me in order to steal my car? You can be sure his weapon
is not
licensed.
