The National Anthem [1995] ZAConAsmRes 1378 (22 May 1995)

THE NATIONAL ANTHEM

I strongly believe that Nkosi Sikelela I-Africa should remain as the only National Anthem of this country. My reasons for that are as follow:

Generally 8 out of 10 people know Nkosi Sikelela i-Africa.
Secondly "Die Stem" represent oppression and apartheid. For all these years the South African people (especially Blacks) were fighting against oppression, so by accepting "Die Stem" as our national anthem will encourage the Afrikaners who want a Volkstaat to have it.

By excluding "Die Stem" as our national anthem will bring comfort amongst the people who want transformation in this country.

I would be happy if "Nkosi Sikekela i-Africa" should remain as our only national anthem.

Although I can be regarded as deviating from the main issue (National anthem), I think my mention of the following point will assist to resolve the question of which national anthem should we preserve. Recently there has been a call for change of the names of South African airports and to be given African names, but the opposition from that, was that the African names would not attract the Foreign investors. I think that was useless since the investors are being attracted by the economy of the country and not by the names of airports. In this regard I want "Nkosikela I-Africa" to be these only national anthem.

Pardon me if I have used harsh and racial discrimination words, but I was not intending to hurt anybody.
