Thank you for your acknowledgement of April 24 1995. I
wish to offer a further suggestion re conditions of employment for MPs and
that
is for a full day's salary to be deducted for all cases of unofficial leave. In
all my 50 years of working I was always deducted
a full days wages for time off
which had not been applied for and granted and I see no reason why MPs and
others should not come
under the same conditions. It would reduce absenteeism
and also be a curb on those who are just along for the ride - and there are
people like that in all occupations, parliamentarians included. I trust this
will be given serious consideration as we need a good example to the rest of the
country.
