the President has assented to the following Act which is hereby
published for general information:-

ACT
-
- To amend the
Non-Proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction Act, 1993, so as to
make provision for the representation of the Department of Trade and
Industry in the South African Council for Non-Proliferation
of
Weapons of Mass Destruction; and to render punishable any
contravention of, or any failure to comply with, the provisions
of a
certain notice or the conditions of a certain permit; and to make
provision for matters connected therewith.

BE IT ENACTED by the
Parliament of the Republic of South Africa, as
-
follows:-
-
- Amendment of section 4 of
Act 57 of 1993, as amended by section 1 of Act 50 of 1995
-
- 1. Section 4 of the
Non-Proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction Act,
-
1993 (hereinafter referred to
as the principal Act), is hereby amended by the substitution for
paragraph (b) of subsection (2)
of the following paragraph:
-
"(b)
an officer of the Department of Foreign Affairs, designated by the
Minister of Foreign Affairs, and an officer of the
Department,
designated by the Minister;".$ -
- Amendment of section
26 of Act 87 of 1993

- 2. Section 26 of the
principal Act is hereby amended by the substitution
- paragraph (c) of
subsection (1) of the following paragraph:
-
- "(c) contravenes or
fails to comply with the provisions of a notice issued under
section 13(2) or (9), or the conditions
of a permit referred
-

in section 13(2), read with
section 13(4), or the provisions of section
-
13(3) or 15(1);".

- 3. This Act shall be
called the Non-Proliferation of Weapons of Mass
-
Destruction Amendment Act,
1996.
