Government Notice MINISTRY OF HEALTH AND SOCIAL SERVICES No. 41 1997 TARIFF OF FEES WHICH REGISTERED PHYSIOTHERAPISTS MAY CHARGE IN RESPECT OF PROFESSIONAL SERVICES RENDERED It is hereby made known that (a) the Physiotherapy Board has, after consultation with the Council for Health and Social Services Professions and with the approval of the Minister of Health and Social Services, under section 39 of the Allied Health Services Professions Act, 1993 (Act 20 of 1993), determined the tariff of fees set out in the Schedule which may be charged by any registered physiotherapist in respect of professional services rendered by him or her in the practise of his or her profession under the said Allied Health Services Professions Act, 1993; and the said fees shall come into operation on 1 March 1997. _. In this notice, unless the context otherwise indicates, an expression defined in the Allied Health Services Professions Act, 1993 (Act 20 of 1993), has a corresponding meaning, and "procedure" means the technique, equipment or apparatus used in order to treat a condition; "unit" consist of (a) the cost of apparatus and the skill and knowledge used to perform any technique or apply the apparatus; and the responsibility and risk involved and the appropriate time spent on any procedure. value for unit (b) Monetary 2. The monetary value for one unit shall be N$0,45. General codes governing the fees 3. The general codes mentioned below shall be applicable and shown on the relevant account in the cases mentioned below: (a) 001: (i) Unless timely steps are taken to cancel an appointment the relevant fee may be charged. Each case shall be considered on merit and if the circumstances warrant, no fee shall be charged. 1'"'"\ (ii) (b) 002: In exceptional cases where the fee is disproportionately low in relation to the actual service rendered by the physiotherapist, the physiotherapist may motivate a higher fee and charge such fee as agreed upon with the patient. (i) Where a physiotherapist uses equipment which is not owned by him or her a reduction of 15% of the relevant fee shall be applicable. Modifier 0003 shall be quoted when this general code is applied. (c) 003: (ii) (d) 004: In the case of prolonged or costly treatment, the physiotherapist shall inform the patient of the financial implications in advance. When the treatment of two different conditions overlap, the fee shall be the full fee for one condition and 50% of the fee for the second condition. Modifier 0010 shall be quoted after the appropriate code number to indicate that this general code is applicable. No. 1507 (h) 010: (i) (ii) (i) 012: Monetary values shall be rounded off to the nearest ten cents, on the basis that monetary values ending with 1 to 4 cents be rounded off downwards and 5 to 9 cents be rounded off upwards. Modifiers 4. The modifiers mentioned below shall be applicable and shown on an account concerned in the cases mentioned below: (a) 0001: To be quoted after the appropriate procedure codes when general code 001 is implemented. 15% of the relevant fee shall be deducted where the equipment used is not owned by the physiotherapist. 50% of the total fee for the treatment shall be added. Only 50% of the fee for the additional procedure may be charged. The fun fee for the second condition may be charged. Only 50% of the fee for the second condition may be charged.
