The Value of Free Access to Law

Free access to law projects are often seen to produce value primarily, if not exclusively, for the community of legal professionals - in government, NGOs, academia or private practice. We sometimes forget that the law serves society and that each individual citizen is entitled to have access to the law not necessarily through an intermediary - a legal professional, but also directly to enable him/her to exercise rights and learn about obligations ... or, simply, to have the means to check on government, as this recent story from the USA tells us : Hey, Joe, whaddaya know?
